Engineering Plastics
Polyamide-Imide (PAI) & PEEK (Polyetheretherketone)
Torlon® PAI:
Excellent for high temperature applications offering a combination of dimensional stability and mechanical strength & stiffness. Maximum allowable service temperature = 250°C/482°F (in air). Excellent radiation resistance (gamma & x-rays).
PEEK: When superior chemical resistance is required, PEEK is an alternate material. PEEK has excellent resistance to steam (sterilization) and a wide variety of chemicals but mechanical properties of PEEK decline rapdily after 150°C/302°F.
Polyetherimides (PEI) & Polyimides (PI)
ULTEM® PEI (Ultem 1000 and other grades) & Vespel® (PI): Outstanding resistance to heat and heat aging. High-impact strength and wear resistance, low coefficient of thermal expansion, excellent electrical properties.
Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMW PE)
UHMW PE, like Tivar® 1000, for excellent abrasion and radiation resistance, impact strength and chemical resistance, low coefficient of friction, low cost.
Polyamides (PA)
Nylon for outstanding toughness and wear resistance, low coefficient of friction, excellent electrical properties and chemical resistance. The seal shown at the left was machined from Nylon MC 901, Blue.
Acetal
Delrin®, Delrin® AF, Celcon® for exceptional dimensional stability & resistance to creep, vibration fatigue, low coefficient of friction, high resistance to abrasion and good chemical resistance.
Other engineering plastics that APT precision machines include:
Polysulfone, polyurethane, polyphenylene sulfide, & acrylic.
